BACKGROUND

On February 21, 2018, the Board of Commissioners voted to open the minimum 45-day public review and comment period for the Draft ADA Action Plan.  The comment period will run from February 26, 2018 through at least April 11, 2018.  This evening, Community Outreach staff will make a presentation that will acquaint Commissioners with the contents of the Action Plan and the community engagement process that led to this draft plan.  Commissioners will have the opportunity to ask questions about the plan and the community engagement process.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is updating their original 1992 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan to create an ADA Action Plan that incorporates the updates to federal guidelines that address recreation facilities as well as emerging practices and technology.  The ADA Action Plan presents a framework for ADA compliance for the next 25 years, to support the full inclusion of people with disabilities and ensure access to Minneapolis’ award-winning park system.

Upon conclusion of the public comment period in April, input will be compiled for presentation to the Board of Commissioners.  The plan will come before the Board as a study item, with a resolution to accept the Action Plan.  Staff will make a presentation that will reiterate the key elements of the Action Plan and document the public comment received.

The Action Plan is attached to this study item.
