Whereas, The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board ("MPRB") is the steward of the Minneapolis Park System;

 

Whereas, The Minneapolis Park & Recreation is committed to providing Park and Recreation Facilities and Services in accordance with its mission;

 

Whereas, The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board 2007-2020 Comprehensive Plan Vision Theme 3 provides that a goal and strategy to develop and provide dynamic parks that shape city character and meet diverse community needs;

 

Whereas, The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board has deemed it is in the best interest of the organization to work closely with the State of Minnesota legislature and Federal Officials, Senators and Legislative Representatives to develop an understanding of the mission of the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and to secure funding and pursue policies that support that mission; and

 

Whereas, The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board as developed a legislative agenda for 2018;

 

RESOLVED, That the Board of Commissioners approve the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board 2018 Legislative Agenda; and

 

RESOLVED, That the President of the Board and Secretary to the Board are authorized to take all necessary administrative actions to implement this resolution.

BACKGROUND

 

The Superintendent worked with the Board president and MPRB lobbyists to develop the Draft 2018 Legislative Agenda for the Park & Recreation Board. The Draft 2018 Legislative Agenda is attached for discussion and approval.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends approval of the Draft 2018 Legislative Agenda.

 

This action is supported by the following vision and goal statements in the MPRB 2007-2020 Comprehensive Plan.

 

Vision Theme 3:               Dynamic Parks that shape city character and meet diverse community needs

Goal:                             Financially independent and sustainable parks prosper

Strategies:               Work with all levels of government to secure consistent, dedicated funding for park development, maintenance, and operation.
